In California, the salary range for a National Tax Manager is $110,000 - $170,000. Salary determination will vary based on factors such as a candidate’s geographical location, qualifications, experience, skills, and competencies. Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the core tax service delivery groups, with SALT team support, on presenting and implementing consulting opportunities including, audit defense/controversy and governmental intervention matters, nexus studies, apportionment reviews, accounting for income tax reviews, unitary issues, restructurings, & merger/acquisition situations.
  • Emphasis on daily SALT tax technical reading to help derive planning ideas to be marketed to clients & prospects
  • Regular interaction with clients on SALT compliance & consulting engagements as well as proposals.
  • Help to mentor staff on more value-added SALT projects & initiatives including identifying planning opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • 5 to 8 years’ of State and Local tax experience, including income/franchise tax, personal income and indirect taxes. SALT compliance experience helpful, but not required.
  • CPA, CMI, or JD required
  • State tax administrator relationships and key state/local tax networking contacts a plus.
  • Business writing skills with at least 2 - 3 years of experience writing technical memorandums and client proposals
  • Prior involvement and working knowledge of state & local tax planning initiatives such as nexus studies, restructurings, apportionment reviews, and M&A.
  • Solid organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multi-task
  • Excellent communication and presentation (verbal and written) skills
  • Interpersonal skills to be able to work well with peers & subordinates (delegation of project tasks). Ability to assist in the sales process and eventually evolve into a market facing role a definite plus.
